Bio-inspired synthesis of PbO nanoparticles (NPs) via an aqueous extract of Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaves

There is a pressing need for the development of nanoparticles (NPs) environmental nanoscience and nanotechnology. Bio-inspired synthesis lead oxide has been successfully demonstrated using an aqueous extract Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) leaves. Structural optical investigations annealed at 600 °C were carried-out complementary techniques namely, X-ray diffraction (XRD) that showed formation both form α-PbO (tetragonal) β-PbO (orthorhombic) NPs with average crystalline size found approximately 8.96 nm whereas field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) revealed highly agglomerated particle to peak 12.69 ± 0.27 nm. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) confirmed high purity PbO as well attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) Raman spectroscopy. From UV–Vis-NIR, energy bandgap amounted 4.44 eV photoluminescence (PL) spectrum broad nature visible emissions peaks 361, 448, 562 689 surface defects oxygen vacancies. Through these findings, use Rosemary leaves hereby shown be cost-effective environmentally benign alternative synthesize (PbO NPs).
